Cast of characters (in order of appearance)

Toni (short for Antonia, after her grandmother): She is a tomboy who is sometimes not very nice, but the fairytale quest sees her begin to grow up.  

Brian: Toni's baby brother, whom she is tricked into swapping for a unicorn. 

Toni's mother & stepfather: Toni's adventure takes place when she goes on holiday to Kerry with her mam and her stepfather, PJ, who is a painter.

Rumpelstiltskin: He of the well-known fairytale, who is the one doing the tricking and kidnapping of Brian.  

Oddi, the unicorn: A gentle, magical creature who accompanies Toni on her adventure and shows her a new way of looking at the world. 

The fairy godmother: Actually godmother to the unicorn's master (Prince Charming), it is she who sets Toni and Oddi on the road to their great adventure through the Wild Woods. 

Millie, the giant's wife: Married to the giant of Jack-and-the-Beanstalk fame, Millie accompanies Toni and the unicorn on their quest.  

Julia & Father Time: Toni meets these nice people during her journey through the woods and they leave a lasting impression on her.  

Fairytale folk: Besides those mentioned above, other well-loved fairytale characters pop up in the story, although they are sometimes not quite the same as we thought they were.
